Borne
Borne
Within each proverb bides a truth
So when we cite, “our cross to bear”
Alludes to weight imposed from youth
A custom load we cannot share
Each cross is carved by Lord of all
A carpenter in flesh and reign
From Father came His crafter’s call
To deem which burdens souls can strain
Oft times the task was uniform
The size of cross did rarely change
In families persists a norm
And limited be nations’ range
When order came for Daniels’ crew
The bulk had cross of av’rage mass
Designs for youngest son He drew
But Elohim forbid it pass
“Why dost thou halt the work, my king?
I’ve yet to build the cross for Blake
Akin to those in Daniels’ ring
Perceive ye cause to shift the make?”
Atop each shoulder God laid hands
“I too do yearn to make them light
To see them quake from these demands
It pains us both our strength despite”
“Ye know as well as I his fate
The burden wrought by Blake is grand
None other of his kin relate
His will is strongest of the band”
“The weight he bears would crush the rest
A boist’rous mind and taxing plight
But Blake doth bend to no behest
Within his curse a hidden might”
“Obsession has its merits too
What Blake esteems he puts ‘bove all
Unwav’ring firmness through and through
Beliefs once held, they cannot fall”
“Should lose his favor, food or sleep
He’d brave the pangs of restless starved
When Blake commits to cov’nant keep
He’ll proudly lift the cross ye carved.”
Jehovah voiced his own concern
“I do not doubt his fortitude
A sentiment few will return
Their view of Blake forever skewed”
Then Father’s lofty gaze retired
“In ignorance they’ll judge him wrong
Expect too much of one so mired
But dawning shall betide the throng”
“Inflict thy greatest cross on he
For Blake can weather all that may
In vigor he resembles thee
From us he shall not ever stray”
(Made us all cry including Blake it meant a lot to him!)
