Tonight was family home evening. I made a goal at the beginning of the year to do better with my family home evening. Out of 43 I have had it 39 times. A huge improvement over the previous years where I was hit or miss. We have been having the family proclamation lessons I found on the idea door. There are nine lessons and tonight we did Lesson 3, which is paragraph 3 about how we lived before and were taught and decided to come here to prove ourselves. We talked about the choices we make and how our prophet talked about the 3R's of choice. Right, Responsibility, Results. We then had the kids go on a treasure hunt for Halloween items, needed items, etc. Rick had the clues tie in to the lessons. I thought they were pretty good.
1 Keep your eyeballs (choc candy eyeballs) single to the Lord's glory
And let the sweet spirit (marshmellow ghosts) tell its story
Our Father rules all from near a star
It's Kolob, so remember who you are
Every noble Prince is the son of a King
Gather round while I play and you sing
(by his guitar)
2. We were sent here to stretch our wings (balsam airplanes) and fly
So find the room that is closest to the sky
Put on yourself the armor of the Lord
With a breastplate of faith, and a sword (glow in the dark sword)
(boys bedroom)
3. Beware of creatures with evil intent
They seem sweet while your soul they will rent (monster pez dispensers)
Keep your mind clean and your thoughts pure
Lest they will attract with magnetic allure (magnets)
Their location you might need a hint
Words and images they can imprint
(tv)
4. Blessed are the feet (socks) of those who carry
The word of the Holy One and don't tarry
Keep them clean or they'll smell scary
Have good grooming (ponytail elastics), not too hairy
You'll find your next clue in the place
Where our favorite might make up her face
(my vanity)
5. The Lord gave you a temple, your body
In his image so it can't be shoddy
So cover it with clothes (Halloween pj's) modest design
Prepare now and you know you'll be fine
Never forget where you are going
And righteousness ever be sewing
(Sewing supplies)
6. Develop your talents, abilities and gifts
Through laziness your souls Satan sifts
You might learn how to drill or to carve (carving tools and two pumpkins)
Learn to work for your bread or you'll starve
Reading , writing, geometry and more
And remember to lay up in store (food storage closet)
The kids had a blast!
