Two Nights-Caden Daniels

Their will did lack, we’re quick to say
As Master strained beneath the load
Disciples slept, though bid to pray
No succor lent while ichor flowed

Pathetic show of man’s resolve
Supposed rock and thund’rous sons
A slumber they cannot absolve
But blame doth not befall these ones

Our Lord foresaw another night
In which all vigilance endured
The three kept watch through Savior’s plight
Beheld as Christ their fate secured

When evil buckled Jesus’ knees
And Hell began its grim abuse
Apostles rushed to soothe His pleas
But mortal aid was not of use

“Impede me not beloved friends
Beyond your grasp is what I do
My bloodied form shall make amends
Upon thy minds I grant this view”

Before the three, Christ laid His cause
Observed the world’s corrupted souls
Each darkened by their breach of laws
To be made white like burning coals

Their stains began to syphon off
Once broken bonds, restored by love
With hope, the sick fret not their cough
A sinner’s peace sent from above

Absorbed their filth, that Spotless Lamb
Unblemished men through sullied King
The grime of all who were to damn
Sufficient weight for pores to wring

This one instance caused Christ to fear
So fierce a pain, He plead for death
A fleeting doubt rang in His ear
“Too great a task? Not while I’ve breath”

Horrific sight shook trio free
Their vision ceased and eyes were filled
Around their Lord lay crimson sea
A massacre whence death was killed

While Master writhed in agony
The three perceived His work unjust,
“We’ve seen the fruits to come of thee
And wish that ye’d leave men as dust”

“Too high a price to save mankind
Please spare thyself this awful Hell
No prize is worth what ye’ve consigned
Just damn us all that ye be well.”

“We’d see us first in Satan’s grip
Engulfed by shadow and the flame
With flesh stripped clean under the whip
If but to keep thee from the same”

“No being save thy self is good
If someone must be punished so
Anyone else more rightly should
Deserve ye least of all this woe”

“Ye ask that we impede thee not
But such command we shall not keep
With all our might we’ll fight this plot
We cannot bear ye be our sheep”

Compassion fell upon our Lord
“This sacrifice must come to pass
But final mercy I accord
You’ll witness not my pangs amass”

So Master chose the night we know
Alone He trod the press of wine
While Evil dealt it’s greatest blow
Disciples rest by sleep divine

Caden's latest poem depicts two nights.  One is where the disciples did not fall asleep and witnessed Christ's agony and would try and stop it from happening because it was too much to bear.  The other is the night in which a merciful Savior allows them to sleep so that they would not see the torture he would endure.  Always merciful we know what night happened.

He has such a way with words. How long does it take him to write a poem?
