Dave's Funeral Saturday January 20, 2024

The nieces and nephews sang I am a Child of God and they could barely get through it.

David's funeral service was beautiful and several people have commented that it was the best funeral that they have ever attended.  I think looking out and seeing everyone sporting hockey jerseys made it seem less somber than if we were all in black.  Our part of the service lasted just over an hour and the bishops comments and final song had us finished by 1 hour 20 minutes so perfect length.  I will attach Caden's poem on the next post.  The overall consistent message was that Dave was someone that made a difference  with his genuine kindness, compassion, humor, and love.  He was someone that left you better than he found you and that was a special gift that he had that we will all miss.  As we were cleaning out his house Friday, we found a note that he had written and signed. It said that he did not want a funeral but just to be cremated and his family go to chuck a Rama and share Dave stories.  He then wanted someone that went to the water to scatter his ashes.  Didn't specify what water so I guess any would do!  We found this after the funeral was planned so we went ahead but I can only think that Dave was looking down at all those in attendance wearing hockey shirts and smiled.  I know that he did not realize the impact he had on those that had the priviledge of knowing him.  Till we meet again little brother!
