The Good the Bad and the Ugly
The Good:
Today was our annual primary nativity program. They didn't do it last year due to Covid but we did it this year, and it is amazing. They have an entire stage complete with stable and manger and all the kids are in costumes that the music director made a few years ago that they just reuse. After they serve cookies and it really is such a special event that our ward really enjoys.
The Bad and the Ugly:
Sweet Wilma sits with me every Sunday and she is one of the ladies that I take to the temple. She just turned 80 and is the kindest person and serves someone everyday it seems. She was scammed out of 10,800 dollars this week. Of course, she feels stupid and vulnerable. They called her and said her grandson had been arrested and he needed bail money. They even somehow had his voice come on the line. She panicked and sent the money. She then finds out of course that it was a scam and her grandson was just fine and had not been arrested. She went to her bank and they said they will investigate it but it is very unlikely that she will get the money back. Her bank told her that older people should not have Facebook or social media accounts because that is how they get the personal information that they use to pull these kinds of scams. Anyway she didn't come to the ward Christmas party because she was so depressed and wasn't going to come today but knew that coming to church always makes her feel better. It just makes you so sad that people out there have no conscious. It was a woman that called and was so sweet and concerned for her grandson while knowing that she was about to rob and elderly person.
Thankfully Wilma is not left destitute and will be fine but that is still a lot of money to have stolen from you.
