Watched Grey Tuesday and Friday this week. He had pink eye and so we are treating that. I woke up this morning with the beginnings of it I think. I was able to go to church though since it looked ok. Grey now thinks that high fives are no longer cool and he wants to only fist bump. We had a lot of fun and I love that he is getting interested in having me read to him. He loves to walk to the mailboxes with his mail key and get the mail. We take his little car and he gets out and loads the mail into it and then we head home. Saturday we had a young women pool party at our house. We ordered pizza and bundt cakes and fruit. The weather was perfect but since we had some cooler weather and rain the days prior, the water was cold. Didn't stop the girls though. We only had eight girls come, many had sport events or were out of town so smaller group but they had a great time.
Church was so awesome today. I think that this hiatus really has made me so grateful when we get to go. So many things taken for granted. I love just sitting in a room with other members of the ward, listening to the songs, partaking of the sacrament and then hearing a message. Today we heard from a new member that moved in at the start of the pandemic. They have six children and had their last one right before moving here so the baby is almost six months and we really haven't met them. We knew nothing of them but he talked about faith and how he was raised in a home that did not believe in religion or God and he described Korihor about how that how you fare in this life is up to you and your genius and their is not crime. That was pretty much how felt. He was set up with a girl and they went on a date. He knew she was a member but he didn't think much of it. She was waiting for a missionary and he was set to leave Texas and go play soccer at a college out of state. The missionary didn't work out and he injured his hip and could not play any longer. They started dating a bit and she gave him a Book of Mormon with her testimony in it. He said he put it under his bed and didn't think much about it. She would invite him to church but he always made excuses to not go. He was sitting on his bed one day and he heard the thought, read the Book of Mormon. He ignored it and again it came stronger, he again said in his heart he had no interest in that book so he was not going to read it. The thought came again and very powerfully so he felt he could not ignore it. He got the book and started to read. He read about Nephi needing help building the boat and he was going through a problem and he needed help. He had never prayed in his life or even before thought there was a God, but he thought of Nephi's example and thought that maybe there was a god and maybe he would help him. He said his first prayer and asked for help. Heavenly Father answered his prayer and he said it changed everything. He knew there was a God, and that God knew him. He ended up calling Allison and told her that he wanted to get baptized. They are married and 17 years later he was sharing this with us today. It was so powerful. He also said something else that touched me. He said he does not like giving talks and actually failed a public speaking class in college, but he said that the Lord doesn't ask us to be perfect or to know everything. He will take what we have and magnify it. He said that if the Lord came to us and said he needed us to speak because what we would say would touch one of his sons and daughters would we ever say no to him. I hate giving talks but when he said this it made me look at it differently.
Then Rick put Chet Walker on the spot and had him come share his testimony. The Walker family have been in our ward for over two years and they have six children too. They moved to Idaho during the pandemic and so we didn't really get to say goodbye. Chet was here finishing up and this was his last week. He shared a beautiful testimony about the character of Christ. This was a talk Caden referenced in one of his letters from Elder Bednar. I had read it then and reread it today after Chet reminded me of it. It is such a beautiful reminder to always look outward. I needed that reminder today and want to be better at reaching out to others.
Lexi had her 2nd baby shower yesterday with Levi's family and she said she got so much stuff and a lot of people came. I haven't spoken to her yet but she is very prepared for baby to come. I got my tickets for Sept 30-Oct 13 so hopefully she holds off until I get there!
