Be Still and Know That I am God
We had Women's Conference today and it was amazing. The absolute best one I have ever been too! We all started out in the chapel where we had a video presentation --thoughts from sisters in our stake about God's role in our lives and how they have felt his influence in various ways. A song that I had never heard called Be Still by Hillary weeks was sung by a husband and wife. So powerful. Then our Stake RS President spoke. She started with a scripture in Psalms 107:28-31 "Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble and he bringeth them out of their distresses. He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still. Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven. Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness and for his wonderful works to the children of men!"
She talked about the trials that we are called to pass through but how merciful the Lord is to us. We need to always be found on our knees and feasting on the words of Christ so that we can have the Spirit direct our paths. Our new stake president talked about when his dad was a Bishop he had a lot of problems in his ward. Elder Wirthlin had come to speak to him and his dad had a moment with him. His dad proceeded to unload all of his problems on Elder Wirthlin. Elder Wirthlin with love said "just relax, it will all be ok." He said that we can have peace because we are told to have peace and be of good cheer for "I have overcome the world" He reminded us to unclutter our lives and make sure that we are doing the essentials. He said if your lives are too full that we cannot find time to pray or read our scriptures every day then there is something wrong in our lives. He said that we need to live with purpose. And sometimes this means cutting something out of our lives. After their talks and another song we were put into five groups and went to five different performances. Each one had a sister that had memorized a narrative about a certain woman. Then each room finished with a song. There was Mary Magdalene, Woman who Bathed the Savior's feet, Mother of a Stripling Warrior, Woman with a Physical Infirmities, and Anna. Each room was decorated for that time and place and the sisters were in costume as well. They were absolutely powerful. I love moments like today. I came away with a renewed desire to reassess and recommit!.
