Friday night the boys headed to a dinner/dance at the Hutto Co-op. I let Blake drive! They made it and had a great time. Caden asked Avary to Mormon Prom and she said yes. He bought a pair of Converse sneakers and then had four cupcakes in this cute box. The note said, Avary, it would be fun to "converse"with you at Mormon Prom! and then something about sweet if she said yes. It was cute. She loved it and ended up wearing the converse the next day to the 2nd part of Youth Conference. Rick and I had to get there early and set up our Taco Stand. We were in charge of bringing 144 breakfast tacos. The kids loved them and they were gone pretty fast. They also had cereal stands, smoothie stand, fresh fruit stand, and sausage stand. The kids had to play these games and earn tokens to purchase the food. One stand was eating live crickets. One cricket earned five tickets. Caden ate eight crickets. Disgusting. Blake was smart and didn't partake! They then had workshops. The boys went to Patriarch Johnson's class. He was their Sunday School teacher for a while and they love him. In the picture above you can see he is wearing a gold tree of life. His wife died right before Christmas and that pin was one of her Christmas gifts from a son. She wasn't able to enjoy it, but Brother Johnson wears it every Sunday. Rick and I were moderators for two of the 15 escape rooms. They had the kids broken into 5-7 and they would go with us into one of the escape rooms. The rooms were set up all the same and the kids walked into a very dark room except for two candles on a center table with a few other objects. They were given a few minutes to use the candles to walk around the room and notice the locked boxes, the images on the wall, etc. Then the game began. It was all based on ways we receive answers to prayers and light in our lives. Very cool and they had some amazing object lessons as part of the escape. It took almost an hour for the teams to escape. Once the first team was done, we hurried and reset for the next group. My first group was not as good as my 2nd group. The 2nd group was 5 girls and they took it seriously and really paid attention to the clues. The first group was boys from my ward including my two boys and they did not take it seriously I am sure because I was the moderator. Although every one seemed to have one group that did good and one that did not! These leaders put so much work into these conferences for the youth and I am not sure that the kids fully appreciate the sacrifice. The high councilor in charge actually turned 40 yesterday and here he was spending his day serving the youth. They had a dating panel and some service projects to work on as well. After dinner, they had testimony meeting, followed by dessert and a slide show. We helped serve dinner and dessert. The dinner was set up like a Brazilian restaurant and each table had a green/red block and if they wanted more meat they would turn it to green. They had about five types of meat and then grilled pineapple. The salad bar and potato bar were set up buffet style. Of course, they served Texas sheet cake for dessert topped with ice cream. The boys were a bit tired this morning due to losing an hour of sleep with daylight savings but after a nap after church, they are ready for spring break to start.
